Release Date: 2012-01-19

Jakarta - The government is planning to implement 13 gas infrastructure projects worth Rp77.93 trillion in the 2012 - 2017 period, an energy official said.

Qoyum Tjandranegara of the Down Stream Oil and Gas Regulating Agency (BPH Migas) told the House of Representatives (DPR)`s Commission VI on energy affairs here Wednesday that the gas infrastructure projects would enable the reduction of subsidized fuel oil consumption by up to 17.38 million kiloliters by 2017.

"The natural gas projects will enable the saving of a huge volume of subsidized fuel oils," he said.

He said the 13 projects included five gas pipe transmission networks, namely the Natuna - Western Java network with a capacity of 1,200 million metric standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd), the East Kalimantan - Central Java network (900 mmscfd), the Cirebon - Semarang network (400 mmscfd) and the third phase of the South Sumatra - Western Java (SSWJ) network (1,200 mmscfed).

Six others are liquefied gas plants in Papua with a capacity of 534 MMSCFD, in Maluku (534 MMSCFD), in Sulawesi (356 MMSCFD), in North Sumatra (250 MMSCFD), in Jakarta (250 MMSCFD) and in East Java (500 MMSCFD).

The remaining two projects were a compressor project aimed at increasing the capacity of SSWJ I and II to 1.100 MMSCFD; and a compressed natural gas infrastructure project consisting of 120 main and 960 sub supply stations.
