Release Date: 2011-03-14
Australia’s Cooper Energy has produced its first oil outside of Australia with with oil flowing from the Bunian-1 well in the Sukananti production area in South Sumatra.Cooper said it had completed a successful workover of the well and it was flowing oil at a steady rate of 130 barrels per day.
“The key objectives for the Sukananti production area were to recommence production and demonstrate our international production operations competence,” managing director Michael Scott said.
“We have achieved these objectives in a relative short timeframe and we are now looking forward to further exploration, development and production in this block assisting to make our Indonesian operations self-sustating.”
Bunian-1 was the first of a number of planned workovers since Cooper teamed up with its private Indonesian partner, Mega Adhyaksa Pratama, last year and announced a $6.8 million workover programme of the Bunian, Sukananti and Tangai oilfields.
Cooper plans to recover an additional 10 million barrels of P50 oil reserves in the three fields.
