Mega windmill park to be built in the Netherlands, Ministry of Economic Affairs - Netherlands

Release Date: 2009-12-03

The Dutch government has approved the creation of the country's largest windmill park which will generate enough energy for 400,000 homes in the province of Flevoland. The Dutch Economic Affairs Minister Maria van derHoeven has allocated one billion Euros in subsidies to realise the maximum amount of wind possible via the sustainable project. The huge windmill park will contain turbines which are three times larger than the windmills which currently line the Dutch coastline. The minister called the agreement with the project developers a step in the right direction towards achieving the government's sustainability targets. The windmill park will be built by a private consortium in 2012 near the fishing village of Urk, 60 kilometers northeast of Amsterdam.
