GDF SUEZ E&P Nederland BV

GDF SUEZ E&P Nederland B.V. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Gaz de France engaged in the business of gas exploration and production in the Dutch sector of the North Sea. Gaz de France also owns a 38.57% shareholding in Noordgastransport B.V., which is a gas transportation company and owner of an offshore pipeline system transporting gas for GDF SUEZ E&P Nederland B.V. and several other producers.
The business that is now GDF SUEZ E&P Nederland B.V. was originally formed in 1964 by the US-based Placid Oil Company to explore the Dutch North Sea for oil and gas. The company was originally named Placid International Oil, Ltd. and was renamed Occidental Netherlands, Inc. in 1995 following the acquisition of Placid Oil Company by Occidental Petroleum Corporation of Los Angeles. Following the acquisition of Occidental Netherlands, Inc. by TransCanada PipeLines Limited of Calgary, Canada, in 1998, and an internal reorganisation, the company was renamed TransCanada International (Netherlands) B.V. In 2000 the company was acquired by Gaz de France, the present GDF SUEZ Group.

Following a period of exploration activities, Placid International Oil, Ltd. was able to establish operations after it made a large gas discovery in 1970 on offshore block L10/L11. During the period 1973-1975, the field was developed and a 178 km 36" pipeline was constructed from the block to shore. First production began in 1975, which was the first gas ever produced offshore the Netherlands. Over the following years, gas was discovered on the adjacent blocks K9, K12 and L14, and more recently in blocks D15, G14, G16, G17, K2.
GDF SUEZ E&P Nederland B.V. is operator of the blocks and has working interests ranging from 25% to 60%.

GDF SUEZ E&P Nederland B.V. is also working on the issue of CO2 storage in block K12-B which consists of injecting the CO2 into the existing gas reservoir in order to avoid its emission into the atmosphere.
