NPD

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, established in 1972, contributes to creating the greatest possible values for society from the oil and gas activities by means of prudent resource management based on safety, emergency preparedness and safeguarding of external environment.

The Directorate handles issues relating to resource management which emphasizes cost-effective exploration and production, cost-effective utilization of the infrastructure and coordination across production licenses, and administration on behalf of the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.

As a result, the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy and the NPD are responsible for the framework conditions in all phases of the petroleum activities and plays an important role in encouraging the industry to develop solutions that benefit society at large.
