Moscow. August 14. INTERFAX.RU - a pipeline company Royal Dutch Shell in the North Sea had an oil spill of several tons of petroleum products. Shell experts are trying to block the spill and clean water.
BBC reported that due to a leak in the pipeline the company in spilled about 100 tons of oil.
It is known that Royal Dutch Shell discovered oil pipeline leak 180 km from the Scottish city of Aberdeen three days ago. More precisely, the leak occurred through a pipeline running from the wellhead to the production platform Gannet Alpha.
As reported by the company it had sent a special vessel for water purification from oil products and an aircraft. According to Shell the company managed to block the flow "to a great extent."
For its part, Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond called the oil spill "moderate" and is satisfied with assurances of an oil company. He added that the representatives of the Scottish authorities, together with the Shell are currently monitoring the environment.
Last spring the oil spill occurred in the Gulf of Mexico platform Deepwater Horizon. It was the biggest oil-related accident in U.S. history. It killed 11 people. According to official figures 4.9 million tons of oil leaked into the Gulf. It turned into an unprecedented state of emergency disaster, the consequences of which, according to environmentalists, will be seen for decades.
