RWE Innogy commissions first wind farm in Italy, RWE AG
Release Date: 2010-07-13
RWE Innogy commissioned the first onshore wind farm in Italy in the middle of June. The San Basilio wind farm is situated in Sardinia around 35 km north of the city of Cagliari.A total of 29 V52 turbines manufactured by the Danish company Vestas have been installed. Each of these turbines has a capacity of 850 kilowatts. An operation and maintenance contract has also been concluded with the Danish plant manufacturer.
The San Basilio wind farm has a total installed capacity of 24.65 MW. It is expected to produce 45 gigawatt-hours of electricity per year - enough power to supply some 15,000* households with climate-friendly electricity every year.
San Basilio is the first wind farm to have been successfully developed by the joint venture Fri-El S.p.A. and is jointly operated by the partners. Fri-El S.p.A. is a joint venture of RWE Innogy and the Italian wind farm operator and developer, Fri-El Green Power. Their aim is the joint devel-opment of wind and biomass projects in Italy.
"We would like to say thanks to the entire project team who have successfully completed the wind farm on time and budget. We have thus reached an important milestone for our business in Italy", says Roy Schwarzer, Director Wind Energy Onshore.
RWE Innogy is currently realising another wind project in Italy, the Ururi wind farm in the Molise region. Here, 13 V90 Vestas turbines with a capacity of 2 MW each are being built. The Ururi wind farm is to be commissioned early next year.
* The electricity consumption figures of the Federal Association of the German Energy and Water Industries, BDEW, are taken as a basis to calculate the number of private households to be supplied. Italy: 2,930 kWh/a per household (2003).
