Inpex gearing up for Ichthys seismic shoot

Release Date: 2010-06-29

INPEX is preparing to carry out a 3D marine seismic survey in Western Australia’s Browse Basin to improve the company’s ability to predict reservoir properties and detailed structure features over the Ichthys field.
n its submission to the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, Inpex said the Ichthys 3D survey would cover an area of around 1810 square kilometres, spanning WA-408-P, WA-274-P, WA-371-P, WA-344-P, WA-285-P, WA-281-P and retention lease WA-37-R.

The survey will be recorded by the Ramform Explorer vessel during late October-December and is expected to take 10-12 weeks to complete.

“The Ichthys 3D MSS is planned to improve Inpex’s ability to predict reservoir properties away from existing wellbores as well as detailed structural features by obtaining full imaging data over the Ichthys field,” the company said

Inpex and French partner Total are planning to develop the Ichthys liquefied natural gas development, which could be the world’s largest floating processing platform, capable of stripping out 100,000 barrels of condensate per day, as well as a subsea pipeline of more than 850 kilometres long to the onshore LNG plant at Blaydin Point in Darwin.

Ichthys will have an initial output of 8.4 million tonnes per annum of LNG from two trains. It will also produce about 1.6MMtpa of liquefied petroleum gas.

A final investment decision for the project is expected to be made in the fourth quarter of 2011, while production is predicted to start in the last quarter of 2016.
