Head of the State Duma of Russia expresses Russia’s commitment to ensure reliable gas supply to Europe

Yuri LIPATOV, Head of the State Duma Committee for Energy, met Fernando Valenzuela, Head of the EU’s delegation to Russia, on April 21, 2010 to discuss the current operation of the energy sector and the history of Russia'a relations with Europe, as well as cases of efficient investment cooperation between Russia and the EU in energy, methods of preventing cuts of power supply and emergencies, and the environmental threats of the development and production of shale gas.Speaking about the 'gas crisis' and the position of the Russian government towards the Energy Charter, Lipatov stressed that "in spite of the debates, heads of the European states should act responsibly, and Russia is committed to ensure safe supplies of gas to Europe".
"Russia is diversifying the exports of hydrocarbons and improving transport infrastructure, developing facilities for production and transport of LNG and creating energy reserves. A pipeline through Ukraine and the two major projects - Nord Stream and the South Stream - will not only cover the gas growing demands but also ensure Europe's energy safety".
